Why Some People Know They Saved As Much as They Possibly Can

Can you save more?

I often wondered about whether there’s more excess that could be cut out of my life, but I eventually realize that it was the wrong question to ask.

Here’s why.

The Sliding Bottle to the Limit Game

Have you been in a bar where people are trying to slide bottles on the bar table? The object of the game is to slide the bottles towards the edge without them falling over. The winner is the person who owns the bottle furthest from the contestants with the bottle still on the table.

What if you could place the bottle? If you wanted to win, you would place it very close to the edge and then push it a tiny bit repeatedly until it actually falls off to figure out where the limit was, correct? It would be impossible to find out the limit without the bottle actually tipping over, right?

This sounds intuitive. Yet, no one applies it to savings. I d

I Have 3 Ooma Referral Coupon Codes

As an Ooma customer, I was given three coupon codes to get $50 off the Ooma core system. If you’re not sure what Ooma is, it’s a VOIP device that allows you to make free phone calls with a high speed internet connection with zero monthly charges. You pay for the device up front, and there are no bills or contracts.

Right now, Ooma has a special ‘Dr. Phil’ Bundle (don’t know how Dr. Phil got involved) that includes a VOIP handset for $229. With the $50 off, that would bring your total to $180. Not bad, especially considering that the Ooma core system (without the handset) is presently selling on Ooma’s site for $249 (with the coupon it would be $199).

I’m a huge Ooma fan, as I bought the system about 9 months ago, and it has already paid for itself – and I no longer have to pay for a home phone service again. It’s also cut my cell phone bills dramatically, as I have been able to switch off a Verizon plan to Net10. Here’s an Ooma Re

How To Make Money By Helping Students

It’s easy for you to say. More time doesn’t mean more money.

I started talking about making money in some of my articles recently, and some of you are wondering whether you can do the same. Today, I’d like to introduce one of the reader to you who started making a side income tutoring. Just like you, he’s a regular guy who has a regular job but unlike most people, he decided to make more money.

It can be done. Don’t just listen to me, listen to him.

With the holiday gift-giving season here, and the economy continuing to struggle towards a recovery, many people are looking for ways to supplement their income. One of the most rewarding ways I’ve discovered to earn some extra money is by tutoring.

First and foremost, you’ll need to have a strong working knowledge in a subject area. But if you don’t have a PhD in mathematics, don’t worry, because there are many elementary and middle school students out there who need tutoring at a level that won’t require you to dig through your old textbooks from college. I have two friends,

Are You Spending More, Less, or About the Same on Christmas This Year?

I don’t know about you, but I find this surprising…

This year 43% of consumers said they intend to cut back their holiday spending, compared to 55% last year. But the 43% figure is still much higher than in the previous eight years of 2000 to 2007, a period when the percentage intending to spend less never exceeded 35% and dipped as low as 21% (in 2002).*

Only 43% of people surveyed are cutting back on their holiday spending this year. Is this a sign that things are improving or are people just not facing reality?

What about you? Are you cutting back this year, spending more, or keeping it about the same as last year. We are trying to cut back this year. Part of the reason being that we spent a lot of cash earlier this year on some major expenses. We were fortunate to have the cash available for those expenses but they ate up our nice cushion. So,

Reducing Financial Stress During the Holidays

Even though we like to think of the holidays as a time of fun and family, the truth is that there is also a great deal of stress attached to this time of the year. From entertaining to buying gifts to travel, the stresses on your budget can cause anxiety and worry during a time that is ostensibly about happiness and family togetherness. This time, before you succumb to financial stress, considering these points may just help you enjoy the holidays more.

Why are You Feeling Financial Stress?

While some may be feeling financial stresses due to economic realities, such as job loss or some sort of unforeseen financial catastrophe, there are many of us who experience self-imposed stress during the holidays. Some of the reasons that you might be feeling avoidable financial stress can include social expectations, commitments, competition, materialism and lack of planning.

You might feel that your friends and family expect you to entertain them.
