What Do You Think of Citi’s Mobile Phones Access?

Jumping on the “information anywhere” bandwagon, Citibank developed an iPhone app that lets customers check their credit card balances anytime. Apart from having it available for free, I like the fact that I can:

  • Check my account balance anywhere, meaning that I can still see if I’m overspending while waiting in line to pay for a purchase.
  • Figure out when the payment is due and then set reminders to pay for the amount due. While I don’t necessarily need to do this because I have them on automatic payment, I know a friend who definitely can use some help because every time he remembers to check the due dates on his bills (it just seems to always be the time when we are having lunch), he’s always outside.
  • Every once in a while, Citi will call me to verify my transactions to combat fraud. Whenever they start naming the recent transactions, I am never 100% certain what they are referring to because the description they use is always too vague. If I have this app, I can actually log in, check the recent transactions and call them back quickly.

You can read about it more here, but what do you think? How useful is having information from your credit card anywhere, and do you see other benefits that I haven’t mentioned?
