All About Arizona Auto Insurance Laws

Arizona, like all other states of the United States, has state laws related to automobile ownership and auto insurance laws. This is to help in lowering down the increasing number of accidents in the state. The purchase of Arizona auto insurance can be expensive for some, but in the event that an accident does occur, it becomes more than the worth of its costs.

In 2007, about 55 percent of car crashes in Arizona which lead to death were due to drivers that have swayed from the roadway. Also, accidents in the intersection make up 22 percent of deadly car accidents in the state. Large trucks were involved in 11 percent of these accidents. Furthermore, in that year, Arizona had recorded 141 pedestrians and cyclists who died because they were struck by a speeding vehicle. As a result of accidents like these, Arizona spends an average of $4 billion dollars every year.

These statistics alone show how huge the impact of vehicle accidents is and the way it affects citizens in Arizona, as well as the state itself.

The basic coverage required by Arizona state laws for auto insurance is also known as the 15/30/10 coverage. This coverage includes Bodily Injury Liability and Property Damage Liability.

Arizona maintains a Bodily Injury Liability that has a minimum coverage of $15,000 for the injuries or even death sustained by a single person, and $30,000 for two or more persons. This coverage usually covers only the people injured due to the driver’s actions.

The minimum Property Damage Liability in the state of Arizona amounts to $10,000. This is intended to pay for the damages in property due to the actions of the driver.

Arizona also has a liability insurance law based on the tort liability system. This states that any victim of an auto accident which is not of his doing is allowed to sue the responsible party for injuries, medical expenses, rehabilitation, and distress.

These minimum requirements must be met so that the driver will not have his license revoked or suspended when he gets caught. The driver can also be forced to pay a penalty of at least $250.

Under Arizona state laws, the proof of insurance or financial responsibility should be kept by the driver at all times. It is recommended that this proof is to be kept inside the vehicle. Some insurance companies give official insurance cards to their insured motorists as proof of insurance.

Furthermore, it is recommended that insured car owners regularly renew their insurance policies because some insurers are required by state laws to report the names of their insured car owners to the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicle. This will allow the department to evaluate each motorist registered in Arizona as to whether they have complied with the required state auto insurance laws.

Arizona auto insurance laws were enacted to protect all car drivers as well as car accident victims. Although it can be expensive at times, its purpose more than makes up for its cost. Car accidents can result to damages and expenses that amount to tens of thousands. With the compliance of these auto insurance laws, all drivers can be assured of coverage in the event of unwanted accidents.
