2011 Was Fantastic Year For Bank CEO Salaries, But Not For Bank’s Market Cap.

2011 was a topsy year in the markets, especially for consumer and investment banks. While most banks lost considerable amounts of their market capitalization, (most) CEO salaries and earnings were on par with previous years.

Dick Bove a analyst at Rochdal Securities, calculated the following divergence between CEO pay and their companys market cap.

While the nations biggest financial institutions saw their market capitalization drop by an average of 11.1 percent.

We dont have access to the full list of Bank CEO salaries in 2011, but here are two investment banks and one consumer bank that (in our opinion) payed out far more than what their talent is worth.

Three awful money products to avoid in 2012

Avoid these three naff deals and your money will be much healthier!

Financial products come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes and forms. They may be investments, insurance, a type of loan, or somewhere to keep your cash safe. The problem with the worst of them is you can always find a few people for whom they could be useful.

If a product was shown to have no benefits for anyone, ever, only negatives, it would be banned. But with a whiff of possible benefits for three people, they aren’t. Having managed not to get banned, many of these products are then oversold.

An independent financial adviser must ask lots of questions and fill in forms, and generally assess your suitability based on your psychology and needs before being allowed to sell you a £100pm pension plan.

Yet people who have little money, or no understanding of money, or who have had money problems can get products within minutes with no tests of suitability.

Mobius: ‘Next financial crisis is imminent’

Mark Mobius doesn’t have a reason to exaggerate when it comes to money. He’s the man behind a $50 billion operation and has been involved in economics for nearly half a century. That’s all the more reason, actually, that you should listen to him.

According to Mobius, things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. Speaking to Forbes this week, Mobius, chief of the emerging markets department at Templeton Asset Management, said that “there is definitely going to be another financial crisis around the corner.”

The reason? “We haven’t solved any of the things that caused the previous crisis.”

Mobius says that unregulated derivatives growing exponentially are going to bankrupt the globe. It’s what caused the last major recession, and with $600 trillion in derivatives around now without anyone really overseeing them, Mobius says that a crisis is imminent.
