Different Strategies for Retirement Planning

There are several ways to do without planning for retirement. Some people choose to live very frugal lives in order to put away as much of their income as possible. In fact, some people are able to save as high as 70% of all of the income they earn in order to retire within about 10 years. Then there are other people who focus on investments in order to build a hefty retirement fund. These people often buy real estate property, strip plazas, storage units and a number of other income generating properties. Income properties are an ideal way to accrue money toward retirement. Countdown to Graduation: Financial Aid

Now that you’ve squared away your healthcare after graduation, it’s time to move on to financial aid. For those of you who took on federal loans, you’ll have to complete a “counseling session” online where they’ll teach you how to pay back your loan. But what if you still have questions? Or what if you took on private loans and want to get the scoop before entering the “real world?”

Answer: talk to someone! Actually, talk to a few specific people: a financial aid counselor at your school (what I’ll cover in this post), a close friend who’s paying back loans now (for the “real world” scoop), and your parents (if they’re involved in helping pay for school).

Before meeting with your school’s financial aid office, I suggest spending an hour online to read about your school’s policies and resources. For example, my alma mater has a mandatory loan exit counseling session, regardless of what kinds of loans a student borrowed. When you meet with your finan

Banks to Buy Back Shares, Raise Dividends After Passing Fed’s “Stress Test”

Several major banks, including most of those deemed “too big to fail,” are set to raise their dividends and announce large stock repurchases after passing the latest Federal Reserve “stress test.”

Banks and financial institutions that have repaid their government bailout TARP funds and passed the stress test have been given the go-ahead by the Federal Reserve to make new capital-based decisions such as increasing their dividend payouts or doing share buybacks.

Shortly after the Fed’s announcement, the financial sector came alive with press releases about how the banking stocks would take advantage of the new allowances.

J.P. Morgan announced both a higher dividend and a share buyback, for example.

Personal Loans for Bad Credit Remain Elusive in Tough Economy

The country’s still sluggish economy has changed the way lenders operate. Banks and mortgage lenders, even auto lenders, are more cautious about to whom they lend money. This makes life difficult for those consumers seeking personal loans for bad credit customers. The simple truth? A growing number of banks and lenders are no longer passing out personal bank loans to consumers with weak credit scores.

Three-digit credit scores have always been important for consumers looking to borrow money. Lenders passing out everything from home equity loans to second mortgages to car loans have long relied on these numbers to determine who is and is not a risky borrower. Those consumers with low credit scores have always had to pay higher interest rates to borrow money, and they’ve always struggled to qualify for the best loan products.

Today, though, lenders who were burned by the bad economy – too many of the loans they passed out to credit-challenged consumers have gone bad – have sworn off no credit check personal loans. This me

How to Get a Free Credit Check

Sometimes it is a good idea to get a free credit check to see where you stand with your credit history. This is important because it will make you aware of what you need to do if your credit is suffering. It will also show you anything on the report that is inaccurate. If there is something that is not right, you can let the credit reporting agencies know so they can fix it. By viewing your report, you can also determine if there has been any fraudulent activity. If so, you can report it before someone steals your identity.

A free credit check can be done once a year. All you have to do is contact the three reporting agencies — TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian — and request one. It is important to contact all of them because each report may have different information; one company may not show things that another does, and vice-versa. You
